Kaupulehu-Kona, HI (SportsNetwork. Jonas Brodin Wild Jersey .com) - Miguel Angel Jimenez fired a second-round, 8-under 64 on Saturday and he joined Rocco Mediate (67) in the lead at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship. Jimenez, who won the Greater Gwinnett Championship last year, finished 36 holes tied with first-round leader Mediate at 11-under-par 133 at Hualalai Golf Club. Mediate has won twice on the Champions Tour, both of which came in 2013. The duo holds a 2-shot lead heading into the final day. Olin Browne carded a 5-under 67 on Saturday and he is alone in third place at 9-under 135. Fred Couples (64), Colin Montgomerie (66) and Mark OMeara (67) are all tied for fourth at 8-under 136. Defending champion Bernhard Langer rebounded from his even-par 72 on Friday with a 7-under 65 Saturday and he jumped all the way into a tie for seventh at minus-7 with Bart Bryant and Esteban Toledo, both of whom shot 69s. Jimenez, beginning the day three shots behind the leader Mediate, jumped out to a roaring start to take the outright lead before slowing down a little bit late. The Spaniard rolled in four birdies on the front nine on one, four, seven and nine, making the turn at 4-under for his round. The back nine only got better for Jimenez as he drained three more birdies on 10, 11 and 12, making it four gains in a row. Following a par on 13, Jimenez kept rolling with his eighth birdie on No. 14. Two holes later came Jimenezs ninth birdie on the par-4 16th. Entering the final hole with a 1-shot lead, Jimenezs second shot leaked to the right and into the rough. Jimenez was unable to make the tough up-and-down and he had to settle for bogey, dropping him even with Mediate at the end of round two. Im playing very well, very solid, Jimenez said. Its not the best way to finish a round like that, but obviously a 64 you have to very happy. Played very solid, very well. While Mediate saw the lead taken over early, he played a flawless, bogey-free round of golf a day after making two bogeys in round one. After starting off with a pair of pars, Mediate made back-to-back gains on three and four. Two more pars on five and six preceded Mediates third birdie on the par-5 seventh. Mediate made the turn with a trio of pars from eight before making two more birdies on 11 and 13, getting him to minus-11 for the week. While Jimenez made his bogey at the last to fall into a tie for the lead, Mediate coasted to the finish with five straight pars. Especially here with this wind coming in, you just have to pay attention. Its just playing the right shot, sometimes pulling them off and sometimes not, said Mediate. It was nasty out there today. Browne started his round off slow with a bogey on three, but that was the only blemish on his scorecard on day two. Browne responded three holes later with a trio of birdies from six. Making the turn at minus-3, Browne drained another gain on No. 10. Back-to- back birdies on 14 and 15 had Browne rolling and he closed things out with three pars from 16 to end two shots behind the leaders heading into the final round. NOTES: Mediate won both the Allianz Championship and the Shaw Charity Classic in 2013, his rookie season on the Champions Tour ... Jimenez has 21 career victories on the European Tour and one on the Champions Tour ... Langer is looking to finish in the top 10 to start the season after recording 18 top-10 finishes last year. One out away from finishing off an impressive shutout, they let a must-win game slip away.BOSTON - Michael Pineda tries to continue his terrific start to the season on Wednesday when the New York Yankees play the middle test of a three-game series with the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. You can watch all the action on TSN2 beginning at 7pm et/4pm pt. Pineda won his second straight start last Wednesday against Chicago, as he held the Cubs to just four hits over six scoreless innings to run his record to 2-0, while lowering his ERA to 1.00. He is the first Yankee since Kevin Brown in 2004 to throw at least six innings and allow one run or less in each of his first three starts for the club. "Again, really, really good," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "Command of his pitches, command of his changeup, his slider tonight. It wasnt the best conditions to pitch in, but I thought he did a really good job." Pineda beat the Red Sox two starts ago, yielding a run in six innings. Of course, television cameras showed what appeared to be pine tar on his right palm of that one. However, it was never brought to anyones attention and seemed to be cleaned off a few innings later. Boston, meanwhile, will counter with righty John Lackey, who has lost his last two starts and is 2-2 with a 5.25 ERA. After getting hit hard by the Yankees two starts ago, Lackey again struggled on Friday against Baltimore, as he was tagged for six runs and 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings. He also walked four batters, more than he had allowed in his three previous outings, when he gave up three over 18 2/3 innings. "Honestly, they had a couple walks, but they were in spots that wasnt that big a deal, against guys I didnt really want to give in to," Lackey said. "I felt OK with it." Lackey surrendered six runs in 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Yanks on April 12 and is 10-11 lifetime against them with a 4.99 ERA in 28 sstarts. Alex Stalock Wild Jersey. . New York got the best of its rivals in Tuesdays opener, as Jacoby Ellsbury gave the Red Sox fans an unwanted welcome back in his return to Fenway Park, going 2-for-5 with two RBI to help the Yankees to a 9-3 rout. Ellsbury, part of two World Series titles during a successful seven-year tenure with the Red Sox, tripled in his first at-bat as a Fenway visitor and later drove in two with a double that highlighted a four-run fifth inning. The star outfielder bolted Boston for a seven-year, $153 million contract with New York during the offseason. Three other Yankee newcomers made big contributions as well, as Masahiro Tanaka yielded just two runs and fanned seven over 7 1/3 innings in another strong start, while Brian McCann went 3-for-4 with an RBI double and Carlos Beltran finished 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBI. New York has now won six of its last nine games. Tanaka (3-0) allowed back-to-back homers to David Ortiz and Mike Napoli in the fourth, but just five other hits in his first-ever encounter with the Red Sox. On the other hand, the Yankees battered Boston ace Jon Lester (2-3) for 11 hits and eight runs -- though just three were earned due to a pair of Red Sox errors -- in 4 2/3 innings of work. Napoli ended 2-for-4 and Xander Bogaerts had an RBI double in the loss. "(New York) put some good swings on him," Red Sox manager John Farrell said of Lesters performance. "They mishit some balls, they found some holes. We didnt help out defensively and once again were digging ourself a hole to play catch-up." New York took three of four from the Red Sox earlier this season. Prior to the game Meb Keflezighi, the mens winner of the 118th Boston Marathon and the first American to win the championship since 1983, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. ' ' '
