Stosur beat her doubles partner Svetlana Kuznetsova

MOSCOW - Samantha Stosur beat her doubles partner Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-2, 6-4 to line up Simona Halep of Romania in the Kremlin Cup final on Saturday. Robby Anderson Womens Jersey . Stosur will play for her second title in two weeks. Halep routed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia 6-2, 6-1 to advance to her fifth final this season. In the mens semifinals, top-seeded Richard Gasquet defeated Ivo Karlovic of Croatia 7-4, 7-5, while qualifier Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan upset defending champion Andreas Seppi of Italy 6-1, 1-6, 6-4. Kuznetsova couldnt hold serve once in the first set, winning just six of 23 points when serving, while Stosur was broken twice as well. Stosur took a 5-1 lead in the second but then failed to serve out the match twice. "At the start we were both struggling to hold serve and she had love-40 again on me and my second service again and I was able to get out of that," Stosur said. "And I think that gave me a little bit of a head up, and to win that first set 6-2 was good. It was still pretty tight all the way through." Stosur sealed the victory on her second match point when the Russian sent a shot wide. Stosur won her second title of the season and fifth of her career in Osaka, Japan, last Sunday. The Australian was runner-up to Caroline Wozniacki here last year. The 18th-ranked Halep, who has won the first four titles of her career this season, jumped out to 4-0 in both sets against Pavlyuchenkova. The Romanian sealed the victory on her second match point when Pavlyuchenkova double-faulted. "The score, it looks like it was very easy, but it wasnt," Halep said. "I moved very well and I hit the ball very strong. She didnt move very well. Id like to win my years fifth final but it will definitely be a hard task as Samantha is a top player in good form." The 10th-ranked Gasquet, still vying for the eighth and final spot in the ATP Finals next month, constantly beat Karlovics serve-and-volley play with passing shots, and broke the Croat once in each set. The Frenchman served a winner to close the match. The 102nd-ranked Kukushkin and Seppi traded sets before Kukushkin took a 4-1 lead in the decider and served for the match at 5-3. Seppi broke back only to fall 40-love down on his serve in the next game. Kukushkin broke again when the Italian sent a shot into the net. "I havent played in an ATP semifinals or finals for three years, so I desperately wanted to win," Kukushkin said. "In the tight end of the third set I had a stronger desire to win and it decided the match." Kukushikin reached his first final since winning his only title in St. Petersburg in 2010 and is the first qualifier to reach the final in Moscow since Paul-Henri Mathieu won the title in 2002. Joe Namath Jets Jersey . With Washington teammate Nene drawing double-teams coming off his big game against the Lakers, Gortat scored 25 points on 11-of-12 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Wizards to a 100-92 win in overtime over Milwaukee on Wednesday night. C.J. Mosley Jets Jersey .Y. -- Syracuses streak lives on -- barely.PHILADELPHIA -- The Montreal Canadiens got bigger in Saturdays NHL draft but couldnt resist the allure of five-foot-eight Sherbrooke centre Daniel Audette. Its other five picks were all six foot or better, with three at 6-1 or above. Third-round pick Brett Lernout stands six foot four and weighs 206 pounds. "Hes a big strong strapping defenceman," Trevor Timmins, Montreals director of amateur scouting, said of Lernout. "Hes tough as nails and has a heavy shot." Timmins had talked prior to the draft about the Habs wanting to "get bigger, stronger, faster." "But at the same time if theres a player thats undersized there and hes a good hockey player, then hes hard to pass. Thats the situation here with Daniel -- similar to a Brendan Gallagher in his draft year. You simply cant go by a player with that much ability." Gallagher is five foot nine and 180 pounds but plays much larger. The 175-pound Audette had 21 goals and 55 assists in 68 games last season. Audette, the son of Habs amateur scout and former NHLer Donald Audette, went in the fifth round. Timmins said Audette Sr. had not been involved in any of the pre-draft discussion on his son. In fact, Donald was told to spend the afternoon in the stands with his wife and son until Daniel got drafted. Donald collected 260 goals and 249 assists 735 career NHL games with the Buffalo Sabres, Los Angeles Kings, Atlanta Thrashers, Dallas Stars, Montreal and Florida Panthers. The Canadiens traded up to get Lernout, a Swift Current defenceman. They gave up their third-round pick (87th overall) and fourth-round pick (117th overall) to get Arizonas third-rounder (73rd overall). "I looked at the team picking in front of us and I thought there was a good chance that he wouldnt be there (by Montreals pick) ... We wanted to add some ssize on defence and he was a good fit for us there," said Timmins. Chuma Edoga Youth Jersey. Montreal took AJHL defenceman Nikolas Koberstein (125th overall) and Audette (147th overall) in the fifth round, USHL goalie Hayden Hawkey (177th overall) in the sixth round and Ontario Junior Hockey League forward Jake Evans (207th overall) in the seventh round. Montreal used its first-round pick Friday to take Russian forward Nikita Scherbak of the Saskatoon Blades 26th overall. Thanks to reaching the Eastern Conference final, the Canadiens draft position was well down this year. "If you take a look at our picks in every round, theyre pretty late. So the asset value of the picks we had wasnt near as high as last year or the year before," Timmins said. "Thats why we had to make that trade in the third (round) to move up. "We had to wait out turn pretty long in each round. Ill tell you (how we did) a few years down the road. But were happy with the guys we got. Theyre the guys we targeted and we still had guys left on the list that we wanted to draft." The Habs went "under the radar" on Koberstein, according to their scouting director. "I think this guy has good upside and long-range projection," he said. "Hes a great kid and has tons of character but hes a good hockey player too." Koberstein is committed to play at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks after one more year with the Olds Grizzlys of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Timmins sees him as a five-year player, meaning he has one year at Junior A and four at college. Hawkey, USHL goalie of the year, is committed to play collegiate hockey at Providence. "Hes like money in the bank," said Timmins. Evans is headed to Notre Dame. "Hes a skilled centre with great playmaking ability," said Timmins. ' ' '
